• Growth – stay growth focused, albeit the goals for 2020 will likely need to be readjusted. Focus on projects, quantifiable metrics which will provide the foundation for which to take market share and capitalize on the upturn. For example reassessing your business development strategy and redesigning your systems to make it easier for management to easily support and manage progress. Personal development goals can also progress as normal or similarly adjusted with the short and medium term in mind
  • Plan – continue to communicate regularly your plan for the team and individuals. Engage teams to solve challenging problems
  • Training – now is a great time to consolidate on your current resources, continue to invest time and training so they become incredibly profitable and develop into quality leaders for you for the future. What a scary time we were headed for, when many of the tuture leaders had not experienced the previous Financial Crisis on 2008/09! These leaders will be far better equipped longer term and will bring through better sales people too
  • Now is the time for performance management and act on any little niggling issues with people. Outline a clear development plan and the consequences for not reaching agreed objectives. Give people a chance, if no improvement then act without hesitation as you have a team of people relying on you to make difficult decisions to protect jobs for those engaged and working hard
  • Transparency – regularly communicate honestly with people. Explain what is happening within each of your teams, on a regional level and global. It ain’t all sunshine and rainbows, people know this but they need to know the truth. Similarly if you back someone, you have to tell them. Regularly.
