• Make a list of competitors in your market, Google them to find out a contact email address and send your cv. Want to get out of your industry altogether? You can do the same with any other target companies you are interested in working at
  • Get don’t get stuck on “the one” perfect company or job – same as your first crush at school! Set a high goal of applications sent, 30 or more per week depending on your job type and sector
  • For each application ensure you write a tailored specific email to that company outlining why you are interested in their business and you are a good match. Ensure this covers everything from the company’s core values, their key revenue channels or products, drop names of employees you have researched or know somehow, their financials and how you can contribute
  • Track all applications with a spreadsheet and follow up any non-responses with a phone call! Ensure that no matter what, you speak to someone at that company, don’t give up.
  • Crush the interview by taking with you a well-prepared document on that company outlining page by page why you are suitable for this job and company
  • Ask good questions at the end of the interview. There is nothing worse as an interviewer than finishing up and asking if the candidate has any questions, for their response to be “no”. REALLY? You don’t have any questions about this life changing job opportunity where you will spend 8,9,10,12 hours or more a day? Ask questions based on your research “I read the company has plans to do X regionally, how will that affect this office”, “ I hope you don’t mind but I saw on your LinkedIn profile that you have been with the company for 5 years, you must enjoy it, what has kept you here so long”, “what are the key factors for being successful in this job over the next 6 months and how will this role change over the coming year”?
